About Yala National Park - Block 4

Block 4 is one of the lesser-visited sections of Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's celebrated wildlife reserve in the island's south-east. Like the park as a whole, this block comprises a mosaic of scrub jungle, grassland, and wetland habitats that support a range of mammals, birds, and reptiles characteristic of the dry zone. Visitors typically explore by jeep on guided safari drives, scanning the landscape at dawn or dusk when wildlife is most active. The atmosphere here tends to be quieter than in the more frequented central blocks, offering a somewhat more unhurried experience. The nearest significant town is Tissamaharama, which serves as the principal base for travellers arranging accommodation, guides, and permits before entering the park.
