About Yala National Park - Block 5

Block 5 is one of several designated zones within Yala National Park, lying in the south-eastern corner of Sri Lanka not far from the town of Tissamaharama. Like other sections of this sprawling protected area, it encompasses a mosaic of scrub jungle, grassland and wetland habitats that support a range of wildlife typical of the region. Visitors come primarily for game drives, moving quietly through the landscape in search of animals in their natural surroundings. Access and visitor numbers within individual blocks are managed to limit disturbance to the ecosystem. Tissamaharama serves as a practical base, offering accommodation and services for those exploring this part of the park. The experience tends to be quieter and less frequented than the more popular central blocks.
