Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is one of Sri Lanka's most sacred Buddhist sites, located within the ancient city of Anuradhapura in the Cultural Triangle. The site centres on a revered bodhi tree, drawing a steady stream of pilgrims and visitors throughout the year. Worshippers come to make offerings, meditate and observe religious ceremonies, whilst tourists arrive to witness the quiet devotion that characterises the atmosphere here. The surrounding grounds are well maintained, with shrines and enclosures lending the site a contemplative character. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and remove footwear before entering. Anuradhapura itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides ample accommodation and is the natural base from which to explore this and the city's many other ancient monuments.
