About Lahugala Kitulana National Park

Lahugala Kitulana National Park lies inland from the popular surf destination of Arugam Bay on Sri Lanka's east coast, offering a quieter, wildlife-focused alternative to the beach scene nearby. As a designated national park, it protects a stretch of natural habitat where visitors come principally to observe wildlife, with jeep safaris being the typical way to explore the terrain. The park is particularly associated with elephant sightings, as the area is known to attract herds, though other species characteristic of Sri Lanka's dry zone can also be encountered. Being relatively compact and less visited than some of Sri Lanka's more famous parks, it tends to offer a more peaceful experience. Most visitors make the trip as a half-day or full-day excursion from Arugam Bay.
