The surrounding vegetation provides natural shade in places, and the atmosphere tends towards the relaxed rather than the commercial. As with much of Sri Lanka's south coast, the sea conditions here can vary considerably with the seasons, so it is worth checking local advice before swimming. A handful of informal food and drink vendors typically serve the beach during busier periods.
